When the Canon 24-105mm II came out I was able to test two copies against two copies of the Sigma 24-105mm. A few observations: Autofocus on the Canons was more precise, but the Sigma was good for the Art range and the f/4 maximum aperture meant that slight misfocuses did not result in an out of focus image. Overall a win for Canon. Get the RF 24-240 because you mentioned the magic keyword travel! Use the 50mm f/1.8 for astro now and consider a wider fast astro prime later. For macro, you need to find something acceptable as RF 24-240 ain't a macro lens. The RF 35mm macro has only 0.5x magnification and costs a lot for a 35mm lens.

The vignetting will stay below 1 EV (f-stop) even at 24mm f/4 - at cost of increased corner noise due to signal amplification. I am mostly using the 24-105 since I also need IS. I know on my 24-70, 2.8 and even 4.0 are soft, but I am wonder about 5.6 or 8. Thanks oFT2M55.
